Notes

> The Jollies was initially conceived as an entirely different play inspired by the then relatively new phenomena of reality television. In fact details of the proposed play were sent to schools advertising it as the Christmas production at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. However, when it came to writing the play, Alan Ayckbourn found he wasn't happy with the idea, abandoned it and then wrote a completely different play but with the same title.
> At the climax of
The Jollies, the character Jilly finds herself surrounded by versions of herself at different ages. These were played by various staff members drawn from front of house, backstage and administration (essentially whoever was available!) for each performance.
